ACTIVITIES
Through my experience a woman in physics/neuroscience and in listening to my peers' experiences in STEM fields, it became clear to me that academic spaces are often not designed for everyone. This initial exposure to academia fueled my passion to contribute to creating safer, more inclusive environments in science. In general, I seek opportunities to contribute to redesigning institutional frameworks and policy, as this is where I believe I can make the most impact. See below for some of the initiatives I've been involved with.
FACULTY EDI WORKING GROUP
As a graduate student representative for my faculty's EDI working group, I helped create a data collection, sharing and communication strategy as part of a strategic plan that has since been integrated into the faculty's governance structure and 5-year plan.
UTGSU EQUITY AND ADVOCACY COMMITTEE
As a member of the University of Toronto Graduate Student Union (UTGSU) Equity and Advocacy Committee, I led the creation of a strategic plan for the committee and contributed to a toolkit of EDI resources for graduate students at the university. We also advocated for changes to the structure of the student union and addressed equity-related concerns in an effort to create safer spaces for all graduate students.
WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP COMMITTEE
As a member of a Women in Leadership committee at TD Bank, I co-organized a TED talk discussion event, events for International Women's day, and a volunteering initiative to a local women's shelter in Toronto.
